Arlington Packaging collects the Severn Trent Water Award for outstanding contribution to the Gloucestershire Floods 2007

During the floods, Arlington provided Severn Trent Water with the Arlington Combo to store and distribute essential safe drinking water to the residents of Gloucestershire with at least 10 litres per head every day.

In recognition of all their hard work, Severn Trent Water were proud to acknowledge Arlington’s outstanding contribution to this year’s Gloucestershire Floods at a recent awards ceremony in Birmingham.

Held at the Birmingham Motorcycle Museum on 2nd October, Arlington’s Managing Director Harry Fairbank was presented with the award for outstanding contribution by Tony Wray of Severn Trent Water.

Harry commented “We are extremely proud that the Arlington Combo has been such a successful resource in times of emergency planning response and are delighted to have been recognised for this by Severn Trent. We look forward to working with them and their team again in the future”

A celebratory lunch and ceremony was held for all key suppliers and contractors who had contributed during the Gloucestershire Floods in July 2007 to acknowledge their efforts by Severn Trent Water.

Emergency Planning Response for Gloucestershire Floods, July 2007

The Arlington Combo was instrumental in supporting Severn Trent Water delivering clean drinking water supply to the residents of Gloucestershire during the floods of July 2007.

Safe and reliable drinking water is vital to every community. Emergency planning response is an essential part of managing a drinking water system. A minimum of 10 litres/per head/per day must be supplied to consumers in order for them to be safe and healthy. This quantity of supply must be maintained until the mains service has been restored.

Arlington Combo delivered in less than 24 hours

The Arlington Combo delivered drinking water during the flooding emergency of 2007 in less than 24 hours and managed physical distribution of the combos for STW in under 45 minutes the following day. The lessons learnt from the floods are crucial in future planning for emergency response procedures for water supply throughout the UK and the Arlington Combo is an essential requirement for all water companies preparing for this.

Portsmouth Water - Combo Case Study

Working closely with emergency planners at Portsmouth Water, Arlington packaging took part in a simulated emergency training session on the streets of Southsea and Portsmouth under the watchful guidance of Defra.

The exercise saw over 12 tonnes of water distributed to three locations across the towns using Arlington Combo containers, simulating response to a localised water supply emergency. As well as helping Portsmouth Water pass this test with flying colours, the COMBO drew enormous interest from the public and water company personnel alike.
