BACKGROUND

The COMBO is the result of a €7 million development project aimed at providing a safe, sterile storage solution to the demanding food and pharmaceutical markets. The objective of the project was to develop a bulk liquid handling system that offered exceptional hygienic performance, and at the same time reduce storage space and costs. The benefits of this research have now been used to provide these same high standards to the water sector.

The COMBO was officially launched in 2003. A 1000 litre, square, foldable container, it works with an airless liner that is filled with water via a standard industry hose fitting. Having flat sides with no visible ribs or struts and rounded corners means it is easy to clean and safe for use in public environments. And being plastic it does not rust!

Since its launch the COMBO has proven very popular with the food, drink and pharmaceutical industries and has already attracted strong interest from water companies. It has been bought in large numbers throughout Europe and the US and has received approval under regulation 31 of the Water Supply Water Quality Regulations 2000.

Further development

New accessories for the COMBO are continuously being developed, including bespoke fittings developed with input from Portsmouth Water.
